“Challenging catalysis with N-heterocyclic carbene complexes of iron and nickel”
Abstract:
The majority of the homogeneous catalysts are based on platinum-group metals. These metals platinum, palladium, rhodium, iridium are low abundant, expensive and toxic. Development of high performance catalysts with cheap and abundant metals like iron and nickel will make chemical processes less expensive and environmentally friendly. In this seminar, an overview of our contribution to the chemistry of Fe and Ni containing N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs), a useful class of ligands for catalysis, will be presented. Special emphasis will be given to our latest results on catalytic reduction of organic functionalities and oxidation reactions using Fe- and Ni-NHCs.
